Unexpected Update

Well, I was hoping this update was going to be about Max returning to school and dissecting a sheep heart. (Which he thought was totally awesome – his words)

Or posting photos of the speech he was giving on Tuesday at the Children’s Hospital Association conference in San Diego. But life took an unexpected turn…

Max woke up very ill on Tuesday morning and was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Yesterday, we were transferred to CHLA and to his team up here to figure out a game plan.

Max has tested positive for a virus. They are also running a series of tests to make sure that he doesn’t have a bacterial infection. His new valve still looks great, so that is amazing news!

He will be here for a few days as we wait on cultures and recover from the virus. He told Buck to bring up his Dodger stuff – so we are decked out in blue!

Special thanks to the Children’s Hospital Assoc staff for helping Tue. morning, to my parents for quickly jumping in and helping out, and all of our support team at CHLA and at home.

Buck said it best – the next few days we want positive news and negative results. Or at least results we can treat.

Prayers for Max would be that blood draws are quick and easy. He has terrible veins so this is the icky part. Also for his spirit to stay strong. He’s isolated so he can’t leave the room. And for his brother Els – he really misses his big brother…

At the top of this post is the verse that Max is meditating on today. It really sums up the last couple of days.
